Hi there, haven't posted in a long time. Hope everyone is well.
I recently added DarNified UI to my mods list. I have a LOT of mods. Most of them pretty dated. I was so happy to get my ctd rate to a low count that I didn't want to update anything
Anyway that's irrelevant. Everything was perfect until recently, here are my symptoms.
After installing DarN all of my cupboards, chests, crates and indeed most containers now have unreadable text. In other words they have the proper font but they have what looks like 'elf text' for lack of a better description (basically just lower-case letters with apostrophes or symbols above them). I used the omod to install DarN UI and everything went smoothly. No problems. I chose Kingthings_Exeeter as my font of choice. The font applies correctly in-game. That is to say that most everything else in the game world displays the proper font and writing: except for containers which have the proper font but not the proper writing. Example: Instead of reading 'Chest - Very Easy' when I mouse over a wooden chest it reads '?èòì?è - Very Easy'.
I've tried switching the fonts manually by editing the oblivion.ini. No dice.
I uninstalled the mod and attempted a new game/character and still had the problem. So maybe it's an ini problem?

I installed three mods recently at the same time: Burningitems (makes wood items burn), Flaming Arrows (gives arrows an elemental affect) and DarNifed UI.
Obviously only the DarN UI changes fonts but I thought it important to mention the three main changes I've made since I noticed the problem.
After installing the mods I used BOSS to update my masterlist and then arranged my mods with BOSS.exe. Now this also could possibly be a culprit but I fail to see how since DarN UI does not use an esp and my load order technically didn't change much.
I've spent hours searching the net and especially this forum. I have not discovered any leads toward a fix or indeed anyone ever having this problem before.

EDIT: Okay so it's not 'efl text' lol. It's Windows alt characters. Why is my game suddenly assigning windows alt characters to my containers in-game?

Setting up Oblivion to work with Mods & ENB

These changes are absolutely necessary for Oblivion to work properly with mods. If you start Oblivion before making these changes, the game will most likely not make it past the main-menu before crashing.

With the exception of number 4, these changes are absolutely necessary for Oblivion to work with mods.

1 - Drivers Settings
In order for the ENB to work properly, the games own anti aliasing MUST be disabled

Open up the nVidia Control Panel, go to 'Manage 3D settings' and choose 'Program Settings' and find Oblivion. (Don't mind the image)

Set the following parameters:

Absolutely necessary:
Anti aliasing - FXAA	Off
Anti aliasing - Gamma correction	Off
Anti aliasing - Mode	Off
Anti aliasing - Setting	Application-controlled
Anti aliasing - Transparency	Off
Recommended:
Threaded Optimization	On *ONLY if you have a multi-core CPU
Vertical sync	On

The ENB uses it's own anti aliasing. Enabling the drivers AA at the same time will result in weird errors like flickering textures, stutter, incorrect brightness and missing effects.

*If you use an ATI/AMD or Intel graphic card, and can't find the AA settings, use Google.

4 - INI-File

Some settings in Oblivion cannot be set via the regular settings menu or the launcher. The default available settings are actually VERY limited compared to the amount of actual settings. All of these settings are stored in an ini-file. 'Oblivion.ini'. Some of these settings bring better quality to the game, and some are required for some mods to work as intended.
The ini file is usually located here: 'C:Users(USERNAME)DocumentsMy GamesOblivion'.

Launch the game and make sure everything works, then proceed to the mod-list

3 - Load-Order

Info: The load-order is a list that determines in which order Oblivion loads additional content (mods). The load-order has 255 slots which are loaded into the memory one by one in the exact order they are listed, top to bottom. If identical data appears (If two mods contain data in the same records), then the last mod (furthest down), overwrites whatever came before. Also, if a mod has references to another mod, this other mod HAS to be listed in the load-order before the mod with the dependency. If a mod is depending on something that is missing or listed later in the load-order, Oblivion will either not load those mods, load them with errors, or not even start. Besides dependencies, some mods also edit the same data, and the load-order dictates which data takes priority. These 'conflicts' can cause all kind of errors if the mods are not placed correctly. Having a correct load-order is absolutely necessary for the game to work with mods.
The list below is how a correct load-order with all OBP recommended mods looks like. If you didn't install all mods, but lets say, only installed the ones without a colored square, then you won't find all these items in your own load-order. Whenever an item is 'missing', just skip it, but keep everything else in the exact same order from top to bottom.
Note: DON'T use Loot or any other auto-organizer. I know it's tempting to have a program sort the whole thing, but unfortunately Loot isn't able to sort the list correctly. Fortunately, if you installed the mods in correct order, then you don't need to change much.
